Jonathan Carela (1991) is a Dominican interdisciplinary artist & filmmaker.
His work seeks to portray Dominican pop culture and human and social behavior in the Caribbean. His interests are informed by personal experiences in the quotidian Dominican street landscape, stories, images, and music, with a discursive focus on racial and identity issues of our days through diverse media such as painting and films.
Carela received three Associates degrees in Altos de Chavón, the school of design, D. R.: Graphic design (2013), Fine Arts (2014), and Filmmaking (2020); in 2016, he received a scholarship to study filmmaking at CCA California College of the Arts. His work has been shown in the Dominican Republic and New York, such as
Casa Quien Gallery (Sto. Dgo.) JVS Project Art Space (NY, NY) and
Centro de la Imagen, (Sto. Dgo.). He is currently based in Bonao, Dominican Republic.
